I was actually supposed to be in the Trade Center that day and living close by I still feel a connection to it and all who have lost. It was just a moment away for me.

I WONT BACK DOWN by Tom Petty & The HEARTBREAKERS

:

September 11 should be marked as a day of resolve and courage which is why the song "I Won't Back Down", by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers should be played as part of your programing on that day: Tom Petty and his band performed that song on the telethon ("A Tribute to Heroes; to raise funds for the Sept 11 victims); it was unique as it was the only song (that I recall in the program) & performance that was "Defiant / Challenging" to those who attacked us and was not weepy or maudlin.

The Sept 11 dead & injured were victims of an attack by non- nation state terrorists who were supported / sponsored by Afghanistan - Iran - Saudi Arabia. Our remembrance of Sept 11 should be a message of courage and defiance to all terrorists and their secular and theological supporters.

Joan Osborne's "How Sweet It Is" album

:

She was supposed to record another album on 9/11 2001 but could not focus, and then she decided to record an album of songs that felt healing:
Love's In Need of Love Today*
Why Can't We Live Together
War: what is it good for?
WFUV played the entire album when it was released and I felt the healing begin.
Also: The New York City Labor Chorus's
Harmony
We Shall Overcome
(beautiful harmonies)
AND (of course) Paul and Art's
Bridge Over Troubled Water
and
Bill Withers' "Lean on Me"

New York Groove - Ace Frehley on guitar with KISS

:

On about September 14, with the acrid smoke still filling the air, it was late afternoon and I was waiting for the light to change so I could cross the street at Amsterdam and West 75th. A black car came rolling up Amsterdam with its windows down and this song blasting out for us all to hear...and ponder. It's about resiliency. It's about pride of place. It's about shared experiences. My wife and I moved to NYC at the end of 1999. She's from DC. I'm from San Francisco. The trajedy and trauma of 9/11 are etched in our memories. While we will never be "natives", 9/11 hastened our becoming "New Yorkers." "New York Groove" brought a smile and a sense of belonging during a terrible time.

Stabat Mater and Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee

:

The hymn Stabat Mater (the mother was stranding) is the traditional Lenten hymn that is very powerful, and 9/11 was another crucifixion, so it is very appropriate. At the same time, the hymn Joyful, jJoyful, We Adore Thee is appropriate because God's intercession made it not as bad as it could have been: the towers didn't topple over as intended, and 3,000 people died, with no injuries, not hundreds of thousands. Hearing the Stabat Mater particularly would be very appropriate.
