Safe as Houses by Deb Talen (presently of The Weepies)

It was a song I couldn't stop listening to in the months after the attacks. Everyone I shared the song with ended up being equally captivated by its simple truth and beauty.

"A Moment Away" By Dana Fuchs

:

This song by Dana Fuchs never fails to touch my heart. The inspiration for this song was a woman that Dana met a few days after 9/11 in the area of ground zero. This woman was looking for her husband who, lke so many others, expected him home for dinner, but never saw him again.

In America by Greg Tannen

:

"In America" by Greg Tannen is one of the most moving, powerful, and inspiring songs written about 9/11, in the days after 9/11, that I've ever heard.

WFUV has played this song on the anniversary for years. I love hearing it, and more people should know about it.

The LIST

:

The only music you should play on your nine-eleven memorial program is all the various music which was banned on American airwaves after 9/11. You should compile the list from the radio stations who published their 'banned' music.
America should not be known for banning music and creativity. The terrorists did not win, they got some attention but their acts should NOT lead to John Lennon's "Imagine" from being played on the public airwaves.
Over the ten years which have passed we should show that we have grown, we should show some historical perspective.
That list is all you should play, it will say a lot about where the country was and how far we have come.
Thank you

Dana Fuchs, "Almost Home"

:

It's a great song that while not having to deal with 9/11 directly, it has to do with our troops, and the emotions that go with having a nation at war.

Although hard rock was my therapy after 9/11 this sweet song says so much about what was in our hearts then and still is now.
