Architect Hugh Hardy's Theater of Architecture

The original building at 18 West 11th Street was destroyed March 6, 1970 when members of the Weather Underground accidentally detonated a bomb they were building in the basement. Hugh Hardy designed this new building for the site, which was built in 1977.

Hardy updated the interior of the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY, reorganizing the museum’s internal circulation routes while making as few exterior alterations as possible.

In 1996 Tishman Speyer took control of Rockefeller Center, including Radio City Music Hall. The 6000-seat theater was leased to the Madison Square Garden Company, who paid for a thorough restoration.

Designed by Hardy, the Claire Tow Theater at Lincoln Center houses LCT3, which was created to present new plays to younger audiences as a complement to the Vivian Beaumont Theater’s productions of classics and large-scale musicals.

The new Fisher Building at the Brooklyn Academy of Music was mandated by landmark law to be architecturally compatible with its two unusually large neighbors—the BAM Opera House and the Williamsburgh Savings Bank—as well as the existing structure upon which it is built, a former home to the Salvation Army.
