Alexa Smith: Hello, I'm Alexa Smith. Tonight, performances by musicians from the iPalpiti Festival, featuring Trio Zadig and Orchestral Ensemble of International Laureates on this edition of the McGraw Family's Young Artists Showcase.
Since 1978, the Young Artists Showcase has been generously underwritten by the Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Family Foundation. For many years on our show, we've featured iPalpiti Artists International, led by conductor Eduard Schmieder and founded in 1997. This award-winning group brings together the most talented young musicians from around the globe, creating a renowned ensemble that has catapulted the careers of countless rising stars. The annual festival is held in California and dedicated to the artistic career advancement of exceptionally gifted young professional musicians. The global festival aims to promote peace and understanding through music.
In summer 2023, the festival featured the Trio Zadig from Paris in a series of performances. Tonight's recordings come from their final concert of the summer and were recorded live in Rolling Hills Estates, California. We'll first hear the Shostakovich Piano Trio No. 1 in C minor, Op. 8, performed by the Trio Zadig. You'll hear Ian Barber on piano, Boris Borgolotto on violin, and Marc Girard Garcia on cello.

Welcome back. I'm Alexa Smith. Today, we're featuring young artists from the 2023 iPalpiti Festival. In the second half of this program, we return to the Zadig Trio. The trio features Ian Barber on piano, Boris Borgolotto on violin, and Marc Girard Garcia on cello. Named for Voltaire's character, Zadig, embodying justice and truthfulness, they translate these virtues into their performances. Let's hear them play some Rachmaninoff. Here is the Piano Trio élégiaque No. 2 in D minor, Op. 9, performed by Trio Zadig.

The festival will take place in the last week of July, and more information can be found on their website. As always, the Young Artists Showcase is generously underwritten on WQXR by the Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Family Foundation. Here's Terry McGraw with more.
Terry McGraw: The arts don't know what borders are and talent doesn't know what borders are. The world is rich and as we tap into these young people, wherever they are, wherever they reside, and the arts is such a beautiful way to get involved. It is so much fun being a part of the Young Artists Showcase and being able to present these people wherever they are.
Alexa Smith: Thanks, Terry. Many thanks to WQXR program producer Laura Boyman. Our generous program underwriter is the Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Family Foundation. I'm Alexa Smith. Good night.
